Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center and Gardens

The Bamboo Brook OEC encompasses 670 acres in Morris County. It includes fields, woodlands, a formal garden and trails. Seasonal programs that are focused on natural history are offered at the Center. Lectures, hikes, Summer Camp, workshops and more are available for visitors of all ages throughout the year.

Central Park of Morris County

Central Park is a multi-faceted sports complex with indoor and outdoor facilities. There are in-line skating rinks, ball fields, sand volleyball courts, a cross country course and multi-use fields. The park also includes a playground, amphitheater, disc golf course and natural trails. There is a 5 acre off leash dog park for local pooches.

Craigmeur Recreation Complex

Craigmeur Recreation Complex is a popular place to hold outdoor parties. It is complete with a picnic pavilion, picnic tents and athletic fields. Guests must make reservations in advance and can bring their own caterer, their own food or use the onsite grills. The Complex also has softball fields, volleyball courts, bocce ball courts, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard, ping pong tables, a playground and so much more. There are nature trails for hikers and outdoor lovers.

Hacklebarney State Park

This New Jersey State Park is located in Long Valley and encompasses 1,186 acres. Hacklebarney was originally an iron mine that became a park with many boulders and unique terrain. Fishing is very popular on the Black River and the Spruce Run Recreation Area offers many educational programs throughout the year. There are trails, several types of habitats, picnic tables and a playground.

Hedden County Park

Hedden County Park is a 390 acre area that is separated into two sections. The lake section is home to the Hedden Pond where visitors can fish, have a picnic, play some baseball and play on the playground. The athletic section has trails, a multi-purpose field, a baseball field and a picnic area.

Hopatcong State Park

Hopatcong State Park is famous for its Lake Hopatcong and Lake Musconetcong where visitors can go boating, swimming and fishing. This large park also has volleyball courts, playgrounds, a Historical Museum, basketball courts and a multi-use field.

Lewis Morris Park

This park is home to 12 miles of trails. It is the second largest park in the county and is comprised of 2,196 acres! The park features hiking, off road biking, equestrian trails, picnic areas and shelters. Visitors can enjoy sports throughout the year such as softball, sledding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, swimming, paddle boating and fishing. There is a playground, dog park and a Cultural Center that is available for rentals.

Loantaka Brook Reservation

This popular park in made up of four areas that include Seaton Hackney Stables, South Street, Kitchell Pond area and Loantaka Way. South Street is designed for children and features a playground, softball and soccer fields. Seaton Hackney Stables includes trails for horseback riding and the beautiful Loantaka Brook. Kitchell Road offers fishing, a picnic area, softball field and open green space. The Loantaka Way has trails where visitors can experience the peaceful woodland.

Mount Hope Historical County Park

Mount Hope was once home to an iron mining industry. The Park still has remnants of this era, such as deep depressions that were from former mining caverns. Three types of ore were mined in this area from 1710 to 1978. Visiting the Park is an historically educational experience where guests can also enjoy hiking throughout the year.

Old Troy County Park

This 153 acre park located in Parsippany includes hiking trails, picnic areas, a shelter and softball field. The park can be enjoyed throughout the year with fishing in the summer as well as snowshoeing and cross country skiing in the winter. There is also a play area for children.

Passaic River County Park

This park is home to the Passaic River where visitors can enjoy 5,000 feet of riverbank. There are trails for hiking, fishing, a picnic area, softball field and canoe launching.

Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area

This park is full of many different types of natural terrain. At the highest point in this 1,545 acre park, visitors can get a view of New York City. Stop by the Pyramid Mountain Visitor Center to learn more about this incredible park. Learn about the history of early settlers and how the Wisconsin Glacier made a huge impact on how the park looks today. Trails are open year round and there are many programs and activities available as well.

Schooley’s Mountain County Park

Schooley’s Mountain County Park offers a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages. This 791 acre park features a lodge, a boathouse, ball field, multi-use athletic fields, picnic areas and trails. The Lodge is available for rental and has a great ambiance. The Boathouse has a large deck over Lake George where a bridge connects it to the Lodge.

Silas Condict County Park

This park includes hiking, fishing, horseback riding, paddle boating, cross country skiing and sledding. There is a ball field, a 7 acre lake and picnic areas. Within the park is The Casino, which is an historic site that has been restored and is a wonderful place to hold an event. Call for reservations.

Turkey Brook Park

Since opening in only 2003, Turkey Brook Park has many amenities. This 267 acre park features soccer fields, football fields, baseball/softball fields, a lacrosse field, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts and a walking track. There is a 1.5 acre dog park with a smaller park for small dogs. Mount Playmore playground is over 11,000 square feet of fun. Seward Place is an historical mansion on premise as well as the All Veteran’s Memorial. Fishing, ice staking and more seasonal activities are offered throughout the year
