Fairs & Festivals in May 2015

The month of May is jam packed with free fun for kids. We’ve compiled a huge list of the best fairs and festivals happening this month throughout NJ. Enjoy strolling through downtowns and exploring everything from Renaissance Fair fun, live music to crafts and kiddie rides (and don’t forget about all the yummy food too!)

Gloucester County Spring Craft & Home Fair
May 2, from 9 am - 4 pm
Gloucester County 4-H Fairgrounds 275 Bridgeton Pike (Route 77) in Mullica Hill
This 5th annual event is designed for everything inside and outside the home. As a visitor, you and your family will be able to stroll leisurely through aisles and aisle of handmade crafts from over 125 craftsmen, enjoy home style cooking, live music, kids free kite making, pony rides, spring flower sale and picnic style dining.

Kite Day at Terhune Orchards
May 2 & 3 10 am – 5 pm
Terhune Orchards 330 Cold Soil Rd Princeton, NJ 08540
Kite Day is a perfect time to explore the farm during their spring festival. Bring your own kite or choose a ready-made kite from the wide selection in the store. Whichever you choose, test fly your kite in our wide-open 10-acre pasture with all the farm animals looking on. The farm will ring with country music and entertainment all weekend. There will be special activities and games for children in the barnyard.
For all those hungry kite fliers, we’ll have lots of good country food. The whole family will enjoy Terhune Orchards’ famous apples, cider, donuts, pies, country chili, hot dogs, barbecued chicken, and more. Free parking. Price: $5; children under 3 are free

Highland Park Street Fair & Craft Show
May 3 - Over 200 Artists, Crafters and Vendors. Free Admission, Free Parking.

“Feria de Sevilla” Flamenco Dance & Spanish Cultural Arts Festival
May 3 – 2 pm
Parker Press Park 428 Rahway Avenue, Woodbridge, NJ 07095
Take a journey to Spain with Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre and be transported to Seville’s famous fair, the “Feria de Sevilla”, at the Parker Press Park. Experience the vibrant colors, sights, sounds, tastes and smells of Spain with an afternoon of colorful costumes, dances performed with live music by Alborada’s professional company, clicking castanets, stomping feet, delicious foods and drink, arts & crafts, and art-making, all Spanish Style! *Rain date is Sat, May 9th.

Hoboken Spring Arts & Music Festival
May 3, 11am to 6pm
Washington St. bet. Observer Highway & 7th
Over 300 Artists, Crafters, Photographers, Sculptors, Food Vendors, local restaurants and businesses, non-profits, car dealers, children’s activities & more. Special kid’s section on 3rd St. 3 stages of music St. Rain or shine – Admission is Free

Renaissance Faire at the Historic Village of Smithville
May 2 & 3, 10am to 6pm
1 North New York Road, Smithville, NJ 08205
Join the players of the New Jersey Renaissance Faire and travel back to the days of yore and merry olde England as the historic village of Smithville is transformed into the Shire of Smithville in the heart of the English Renaissance. Fun for the whole family including comedy, tragedy, sword fighting, dance, song, knights, jesters and so much more. Also stroll amongst the wares of the local vendors and traveling merchants sporting historical gifts and finely crafted items.

The Cape May zoo will be showing live animals. There will be a bubble station along with other children’s activities. The following, although not free, are fun for the kids the train, paddleboats, carousel & arcades face painting and more.

Spirit of the Jerseys State History Fair
May 9 from 11am-5pm
Monmouth Battlefield State Park 16 State Route 33 Manalapan, NJ
History comes alive at the Spirit of the Jerseys State History Fair. This free, award-winning historical festival is fun for the entire family! There will be many special activities throughout the day including period games and music. Don’t miss the chance to meet British General Sir Henry Clinton, Clara Barton, Walt Whitman, Molly Pitcher and American General George Washington as portrayed by reenactors. Free/$10 per vehicle parking Rain or shine.

Millville Wheels & Wings Airshow
May 9 & 10, 10am-6pm
Millville Airport 104 Leddon Street, Millville, NJ
This show features the United States Air Force Thunderbirds jet demonstration team, the US Army Golden Knights Parachute team, the Geico Skytypers, exciting aerobatics, historic warbirds, classic car show, food, fun and much more! $15 adults, $10 children. Beyond Bollywood Family Festival

Centered on the exhibition Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation, the festival offers activities for everyone in the family. Enjoy an Indian Magic Art show in our Theatre, Watch demonstrations on draping saris and henna tattooing, Participate in a spelling bee, Learn about traditional crafts, and See an Indian Dance Performance and Interpretation with Ramya Ramnarayan.

Jersey Shore Festival
May 14 – 17
Seaside Heights, NJ
The Jersey Shore Festival is a free admission music and arts festival that kicks off the summer festival season and proves that summer really does start sooner at the Jersey Shore. With performances by over 200 artists from around the world, the Jersey Shore Festival is the premier emerging artist festival in New Jersey. They will also be hosting a Pros vs. Heroes Charity Flag Football game right on the beach on Sun, May 17th. Come see former NFL athletes take on local heroes to raise money for a good cause!

Clifton’s Downtown Street Fair
May 16, 10am-5pm
Downtown Clifton along Main Ave. from Washington Ave. to Hadley Ave.
The street will be transformed into a giant town block party. There will be merchandise vendors, crafters, kiddie rides, great food, pony rides, and a DJ with Karaoke & entertainment all day.

Woodbridge Street Fair & Craft Show
May 16
Woodbridge, NJ

Pitman Spring Craft Show
May 16, 9 AM
Along Broadway and Pitman Ave., in the heart of Uptown Pitman
The Pitman Craft Show has been a town tradition for 40 years. The festivals boast more than 300 crafters, all displaying their handmade wares. Vendors at both shows sell a variety of crafts, ranging from jewelry to florals, wood crafts and hand sewn items, fresh foods from vendors and Pitman’s own eateries, and much more. Many of the local non-profits also participate in the festival to support their fundraisers, truly making this a community affair. Come experience fun this Pitman tradition!

Mayfest at Historical Smithville
May 16 & 17, from 10am-5pm

There will be an abundance of family fun with more than 100 juried crafters and vendors, an international food court, children’s activities, nonprofit organizations and live entertainment. If you arrive by 9:30am, the crafters will be ready to go, which allows you to experience a one on one with the vendors, and you will beat the crowds!

Wildwoods International Kite Festival
May 22 – 25
Beach at Rio Grande Avenue in Wildwood and inside the Wildwoods Convention Center
The largest kite festival in North America will feature kite makers from around the world flying their most incredible colorful creations. Saturday and Sunday include the East Coast Stunt Kite Championships on the beach starting at 9 a.m. daily, as well as kite exhibits and workshops. A Kite Festival Auction will be held in the Wildwoods Convention Center at 7 p.m. on Saturday night and is open to the public - many unique kites and collectibles will be auctioned off. Monday will feature the World Indoor Kite Competition from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. inside the Wildwoods Convention Center where kite fliers will showcase their impressive ability to fly a kite without wind. Jersey Shore Food Truck Festival
May 23 – 25, 11:30a-6p
Monmouth Park Racetrack Rt. 36 and Oceanport Ave, Oceanport, NJ
The Jersey Shore’s Food Truck Wars is pitting over 40 regional trucks head to head in this competition of the tri state area’s best mobile-made eats! Come out for a day of delicious food, entertainment and the Star Ledger’s Family Fun Day. Admission is only $3 to the park. Prices vary per vendor

Maplewood Street Fair & Craft Show
May 24
Maplewood, NJ

Woodland Park’s Memorial Day Street Fair
May 25, 10AM-5PM
McBride Ave. from Lackawanna Ave. to Memorial Drive.
The Woodland Park Recreation Department will hold a Giant Street Fair. The street will be transformed into a giant town block party. Their special kids section will be brimming with all kinds of fun stuff to do. There will be kiddie rides, face painting, sand art, temporary tattoos, pony rides & petting zoo. Everyone will surely enjoy the open air cafes along the street fair route offering a wide selection of delicious foods such as hot dogs, ice cream, chicken fingers, zeppoles, shish ka bobs, fresh squeezed lemonade, Italian Ices, french fries, hamburgers, sausage and pepper sandwiches, cheesesteaks, roasted corn and much more.

Red Bank Riverfest Food & Music Festival

Marine Park, Red Bank
Delicious culinary delights by area restaurants, festival caterers, and The Big Bite Tour combined with non-stop entertainment by your favorite local and regional musicians.
