Winston Preparatory School Summer Program
Participate in an individually designed program this Summer
Winston Preparatory School is a national network of campuses, both physical and virtual, offering students with learning differences, including dyslexia, executive functioning difficulties (ADHD) and nonverbal learning disorders (NVLD), a highly individualized, holistic, and responsive education.
We view each student as unique and possessing the potential to learn. Our education model is based on an in-depth understanding of each student, which results in grouping by learning profile and precisely designed, individualized programming. Winston Prep accomplishes this through its Continuous Feedback System, continually assessing how a student responds to their skill development plan and adjusting our teaching approach accordingly.
The Summer Program offers students (ages 8-18) an exceptional opportunity to engage in a highly individualized learning experience tailored to strengthen their academic skills. With the flexibility to design their own schedule, students can select either 2 Focus classes and 3 content classes or 1 Focus class and 4 content classes, allowing them to target specific areas of growth. This customized approach ensures a dynamic and enriching summer of learning.
*Focus - Daily one–to-one instructional sessions aimed to remediate areas of greatest academic need.
* Reading Comprehension - Pre-reading and active reading strategies are taught to develop students’ ability to comprehend fiction & non-fiction texts, as well as enhance vocabulary skills.
* Organization and Study Skills - Students learn methods to increase their productivity and effectiveness as it relates to organization, study and test taking skills as well as time management, planning and prioritizing.
* Written Expression - Designed to improve written discourse at the sentence, paragraph and essay level. Students learn a variety of techniques to produce writing that is more organized, clear, cohesive and sophisticated.
* Mathematics - A customized curriculum devised to build math fluency & problem solving skills, as well as a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and foundations.
*Decoding, Encoding, & Reading Fluency - Students receive individualized explicit, systematic, multi-sensory instruction aimed to strengthen phonological awareness in order to improve decoding, spelling and reading fluency.
* We also offer after-school activities centered around student-interests and are still to be determined (students do not need to be enrolled in academics to enroll in after-school programs). Past activities included social skills and communication groups, creative arts, theatrical improv and coding.
