The Deron School - Montclair Campus (Ages 13-21)

Celebrating over 50 years serving students with Special Needs, The Deron School remains synonymous with excellence in Special Education. The mantra of this Montclair NJ campus is “Academics & Independence.” We foster an environment that emphasizes independent thought, learning and living. Students are exposed to transition through in house pre-vocational experiences. By age 16, students begin job sampling with a variety of community partners in the area.

Students ages 18-21 who have completed their high school credit requirements are eligible for entry into Deron’s unrivaled Bridge Program. This unique transition program allows students to experience learning in an entirely new format. With the world as their classroom, the possibilities are endless.

Programs of Distinction at The Deron School include (depends on the campus and academic level of student):

High School coursework, sports and other enrichment opportunities (ages 14-18) • Bridge Transition (ages 18-21) • Community Enrichment

Areas of Focus include:

Cognitive, Social and Emotional Development • Speech and Language • Positive Behavioral Supports • Applied Behavior Analysis • Sensory Integration • Age-Appropriate Technology • Exposure to the Arts, Woodshop, Music & Movement • Transition Planning.

Our Team consists of:

Certified Teachers and Assistants • Board Certified Behavior Analysts • Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapists • Social Workers • Full-time Nurse • CST members,parents, guardians and community partners.

Highlights in Visual and Performing Arts include:

NJDOE certified Art and Music Teachers who are also working artists • Student-centered initiatives • Focus on the creative process • Annual concert & plays • Participation in Voices in Harmony, Celebration of the Arts and other student showcases * Opportunities to learn an instrument and/or independent study.
